The Savage City Council consists of a mayor and four council members who each serve 4-year terms. City elections are held in November of even-numbered years.

The City Council is primarily responsible for making laws, setting policies, adopting budgets, and overseeing a wide-ranging agenda for the community. It also monitors the activities of the city administrator, city attorney, and other municipal departments and operations. Additionally, the Council appoints members to four advisory commissions.

Meetings 

The City Council has an official meeting at 7 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month in the City Council chambers. Council work sessions are held the second Monday of the month, beginning at 7 p.m. Agendas for both meetings are available from City Hall, 6000 McColl Drive, the Friday prior to the meeting. Members of the City Council also act as the City's Economic Development Authority, which makes decisions on issues related to economic development.
