Night to Unite is an annual event held on the first Tuesday of August that encourages residents to get out in the community, meet neighbors, and partner with police. Many neighborhoods throughout Savage host block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, and bike parades. Registered parties can also have a visit from police, fire, city officials and staff.

The Citizens Police & Fire Academy is a eight-week course designed for the average citizen who wants to learn more about the Savage Police and Fire Departments. Through participation in both classroom and hands-on training, citizens gain valuable insight into what officers and firefighters do, how they do it, and most importantly, why they do it.

The Savage Police Department is actively involved in bringing awareness to Special Olympics Minnesota. We participate in three yearly events: Tip-a-Cop, Polar Plunge, and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Tip-a-Cop
This event is held a week before the Polar Plunge as a kickoff event to our annual Special Olympics Minnesota events. We invited the community to a local restaurant to be “served” by the Savage Police Department members. All funds raised go towards programming and events for athletes statewide. 

Polar Plunge
The Polar Plunge is the biggest fundraiser for Special Olympics Minnesota. All funds raised by Plungers help Special Olympics Minnesota provide year-round training and services to thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state. The Annual Prior Lake Polar Plunge is held at Sand Point Beach in Prior Lake in February. This event is a coordinated effort between Prior Lake, Savage, and Shakopee Police Departments, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and Savage and Prior Lake Fire Departments.  

Torch Run 
Our Savage Police Department is proud to help raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Minnesota through the Special Olympics Minnesota Law Enforcement Torch Run. This event takes place in the summer.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Savage Police Department creates and sells bright pink patches to raise money for research, treatment, and education. All profits go to the American Cancer Society of Minnesota. Supplies are limited. 

The Savage Police Department Ride-Along Program provides an opportunity for citizens to experience police service functions firsthand.

The ride-along program is offered to qualified residents of Savage 18 years and older. Every attempt will be made to accommodate interested persons; however, any applicant may be disqualified without cause.
