Sign permits are required for new freestanding signs, wall signs and banners. 

A Building Permit may be required for any new or enlarged sign that requires a footing. These are often pylon, monument, or menu board signs. 

A building permit is required for a new building or addition.  A change of occupancy permit or building permit may be required depending on the proposed changes within the unit or building often referred to as a Tenant Improvement. To prepare below is a list of typical information that is required for city staff to help guide you on next steps:

• Location and size of all exits
• Label each room
• Restroom location and layout
• Identify if the building is sprinklered or non-sprinklered
• Show location of any storage racking (shelving) and provide details as to the height and what items are being stored.

A registered design professional (i.e., architect) is required when:

• There is a change of use from the previous tenant
• There is a change to the entry/exit system
• Structural modifications

Building owners are required by code to maintain fire safety. If you intend to change the tenant or use of a commercial property, you must notify the city to ensure that the new tenant or use complies with all city regulations. Permits and inspections are required for the following items:

Alarm Registration

All business alarm owners are required to register/renew their alarm systems on an annual basis. The registration program is free, but you must renew your registration every year.
