Savage recently earned Minnesota GreenStep Cities Step 5 status for the fifth year in a row, demonstrating the City’s leadership in a statewide program that helps communities save money, reduce energy use, and innovate through 29 best practices. Savage achieved this recognition in 2026 by keeping every home within a mile of a park or trail, planting climate resilient trees, and reducing water use for three straight years. The City also upgraded facilities with LED lighting, installed public EV chargers, secured more than $100,000 in sustainability grants, supported community cleanup and conservation activities, and advanced projects like installing solar panels at Water Treatment Plant 2 to further cut its environmental impact.
