Post Date:09/29/2025 1:19 PMSavage Police Sergeant Michael Schiltz retired on August 31, 2025, after 30 exemplary years in law enforcement. Mike began his career in 1995 with the Appleton, Wisconsin, Police Department before joining the Savage Police Department in 2001.
During his 24 years with Savage PD, Mike served in numerous leadership roles, starting and ending his career as a Patrol Sergeant. His assignments included Administrative Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Field Training Officer Sergeant, and Evidence/ Property Room Sergeant. He also contributed as a Crime Scene Investigator and worked on Safe & Sober initiatives, the Predatory Offender Registry, and Dan Patch Days events, to name just a few.
Throughout his career, Sergeant Schiltz earned recognition, including the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association Distinguished Service Award (2018), the Optimist Club Law Enforcement Award, Officer of the Year, and two Lifesaving Awards. “Sgt. Mike Schiltz has had one of the most distinguished and service- driven careers I have seen in
my time in law enforcement,” stated Police Chief Brady Juell. “His influence, professionalism, and high standards have left a lasting impact on this department and our community—an impact that will be felt for decades to come.
