Juneteenth: Readings, Rhythm, History, and Community

Juneteenth is observed annually on June 19 and commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It celebrates Black culture, history, and contributions, and fosters unity, education, and reflection within our community.

The city’s Community Equity Commission (CEC) is hosting its second annual Juneteenth celebration on June 20. The event will feature a reading on Juneteenth history and a live performance by Duniya Drum & Dance. Attendees can experience an interactive demonstration of traditional West African rhythm and movement. The event includes activities for children and free food. The Scott County Library has provided books on Juneteenth, Black culture, and history for attendees to browse and check out. All are welcome.

No RSVP required. Stay tuned for updates here!
